© TU BerlinThe Technical University of Berlin and its technology transfer partner ipal announce today the closing of a contract with a global player in the semiconductor industry. The company paid significantly more than one half million Euros for a fundamental patent based on an invention from the Technical University of Berlin. The patent allows a significant increase in the energy conversion efficiency of photonic components. According to German law on employee inventions the inventors receive a part of the revenue generated by the transaction. The patent monetisation company ipal, exclusive partner for technology transfer and patent licensing and sale for Berlin’s universities and technical colleges, acquired and negotiated the deal for the TU Berlin.
Development project of the IBB Technology Development Fund paves the way for improved surgical method
Current skull model prototype (Synthes, Charité)The development of a 3-dimensional children’s skull model can facilitate the treatment of skull malformations in newborn infants. The concomitant research project was launched at the beginning of the year. The Technology Development Fund of the Investitionsbank Berlin is funding this promising undertaking to the tune of 500.000 euro.
Advancement Project of IBB‘s Technology Development Fund (TEF) Enables Research Work in the Treatment of Cancer
Cooperation with the Technology Development Fund, which was launched by the Investitionsbank Berlin, will allow the continuation of research activities on a chemotherapeutic agent developed by Charité University Hospital Berlin. The project is set to begin on 1 December 2011. ipal, the Berlin-based patent and technology commercialization agency, will assume responsibility for the project and related marketing measures. The Technology Development Fund invests 10 million euro into promising inventions and funds the necessary steps leading to clinical application. The average annual investment volume for advancement projects is in excess of one million euro.
In an age when every third German already surfs - wireless and mobile - using a personal smartphone, it’s fairly obvious that global Internet traffic will explode in the coming years. A current study by the IT industry’s giant Cisco estimates that the number of networked devices will eventually reach 15 billion. To meet this daunting challenge, Professors Dieter Bimberg and Nikolay Ledentsov of Berlin’s Technical University have discovered a novel method of obtaining peak transmission rates. Cooperation with the Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) Technology Development Fund will allow research efforts on high-speed data transmission in telecommunication networks to be continued. The fund, which is poised to invest a total of 10 million euro in the advancement of promising inventions, finances necessary steps leading all the way to practical application. The advancement of four to five projects is financed by the fund annually, while Berlin’s patent and technology commercialization agency ipal assumes project control and marketing activities.
“B!GRÜNDET” paves the way for new companies and presented an extended offering for the lively and growing start-up scene of Berlin during the deGut 2011 exhibition. The success of Berlins’ start-ups proved the start-up network to be right. According to current figures from Berlin universities, only within the last year 105 new companies came into existence.
Technology transfer is at the core of the European Conference “Science to market”, to which the European Association of Pharma Biotechnology and ipal jointly invite from 27 - 28 September 2011. The focus is on personalized medicine.
As a close partner of the conference, ipal GmbH will hold a lecture and present some innovative technologies from Berlin’s research community. The EAPB is a platform for European scientific research and biopharmaceutical industry.
On May 24, 2011 the fourth BioVaria will take place in Munich. During the BioVaria around 50 selected technologies will be presented with lectures and posters. Many of the projects presented have never been introduced to a public audience before. As in the past year ipal is partner of this important event for science and technology transfer and presents current life science technologies.
